Dynasty actress Michael Michele opened up about prioritizing raising her son over her acting career.

In Thursday’s episode of Tamron Hall, she discussed what it was like to step away from acting in order to focus on motherhood, raising her now 16-year-old son.

“I wasn’t sure the opportunity would ever come again, I didn’t think so. When I made the decision to step away and, truthfully, I had been around for a while so I think it’s important to say that I had choices that I could make, you know, because I had worked for a very long time before I became a mom,” she said. “And you have to live somewhat like a gypsy if you’re an actor, and I wasn’t sure how I could do it and maintain my career. And I said, ‘This is what I have to do now, and it may never come back. And if it doesn’t come back I have to be okay with it not coming back.’”

Michael Michele, also known by her full name Michael Michele Williams, starred in films like New Jack City, The 6th Man and Ali, and TV series such as Dangerous Curves, ER, New York Undercover and Homicide: Life on the Street. Other major roles include characters on Dark Blue, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, House, and Gossip Girl, among others. She returned to acting in 2017 with her role in Lee Daniels’ TV drama Star as well as Ava DuVernay’s Queen Sugar. She also plays a rebooted version of Dominique Devereaux in the new Dynasty series.
