The Chicago Sun-Times’ Richard Roeper has called Widows the best film of 2018.
Roeper wrote in his roundup of his picks for the best films of 2018 that he was “baffled by the indifferent box office for Steve McQueen’s epic, multi-faceted drama/heist film/political thriller/domestic drama hybrid.”
“…Widows is an instant classic,” he wrote of the Viola Davis and Cynthia Erivo-starring film. “Twenty years from now, we’ll be wondering why it wasn’t more celebrated and acclaimed when it was first released.”
Also on Roper’s list are Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, Blindspotting, Black Panther, BlacKkKlansman and Roma.
Incredibly, six out of the 10 films on Roeper’s list including Widows are from people of color, further proof that Hollywood is changing how it views creatives of color and their impact on the industry.
