Will Smith is set to perform a new song at this year’s BET Awards.
The multihyphenate will be on the main stage at this year’s ceremony, which will be hosted by Taraji P. Henson and will see Usher be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award.
“From his start as a rapper to The Fresh Prince to being a box office king as one of the Bad Boys, Will Smith is truly a global icon, and we are honored to welcome him back to grace the BET Awards stage,” Connie Orlando, EVP Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy, said in a statement. “We look forward to Will adding to yet another defining night for the culture that is not to be missed.”
Smith’s fellow performers include: GloRilla, Ice Spice, Latto, Ms. Lauryn Hill & YG Marley, Muni Long, Sexyy Red, Shaboozey, Tyla, and Victoria Monét. The night will mark Smith’s first time on stage since his Coachella cameo in April, during which he joined J Balvin for a performance of the his’s 1997 hit, “Men In Black,” the title track from the film of the same name.
Drake leads the night’s nominations, including Album of the Year for For All The Dogs (Scary Hours Edition), Best Male R&B/Pop Artist, Best Male Hip Hop Artist, Best Collaboration’ with Sexyy Red and SZA “Rich Baby Daddy,” Viewer’s Choice with Sexyy Red and SZA “Rich Baby Daddy,”and twice for Video of the Year for “First Person Shooter” with J. Cole and “Rich Baby Daddy” with Sexyy Red and SZA. Nicki Minaj follows with six nominations.
J. Cole, Sexyy Red, SZA and Victoria Monét each have five nominations, while 21 Savage, Beyoncé, Doja Cat, Megan Thee Stallion, Tyla, and Usher have each been nominated for four awards.
The 2024 BET Awards will air live on June 20 on BET at 8 p.m. ET/ PT.
