Will Trent is gaining a new addition to the cast soon.
The Practice star LisaGay Hamilton has been cast as a recurring guest star on the popular ABC procedural. She will play Evelyn Mitchell, the disgraced ex-cop and mother to Will’s (Ramón Rodríguez) partner Faith (Iantha Richardson). Her first episode will air March 28.
In the March 28 episode, Will takes a guardian role for a boy who reminds him of his own upbringing. According to the logline:
A trailer park massacre leaves a young boy without his family; and Will, strongly opposed to leaving him, becomes his temporary guardian. Meanwhile, Faith receives a visit from her mother, and Angie spirals from incidents of her past.
Hamilton’s character Evelyn is described as “cashmere draped over steel wool.”
“She’s an ex-police officer who is bitter about the way her career ended, and desperate to nose her way back in,” according to the description. “Evelyn is a force of nature who speaks her mind and approves of people who take responsibility and move the world forward. There’s a certain sweetness and charm that contrasts with Amanda’s tough cop approach.”
Will Trent is based on Karin Slaughter’s New York Times best-selling Will Trent series and follows the eponymous character as he solves cases in the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in Atlanta while facing his past as a child in the foster care system.
Along with Rodríguez and Richardson, Will Trent stars Sonja Sohn, Erika Christensen and Jake McLaughlin. Executive producers include Liz Heldens, Dan Thomsen, Karin Slaughter and Oly Obst. The pilot was written by Heldens and Thomsen; it was directed and executive produced by Paul McGuigan.
