Zendaya is a part of a hot package that may bring the newly-minted Emmy winner to potential EGOT status. Set up at Euphoria producer A24 is a biopic on rock star Ronnie Spector.

A24 just closed the deal for Spector’s life rights and Be My Baby, the autobiography Spector wrote with Vince Waldron. Pulitzer winner  Jackie Sibblies Drury is in talks to writ the script. Marc Platt will produce and Jonathan Greenfield and Ronnie Spector will executive produce. Zendaya would be an executive producer as well.

Just like Aretha Franklin hand-picked Jennifer Hudson for her biopic, Spector has selected Zendaya as worthy to portray her.

As Deadline tells her story:

She grew up in Spanish Harlem and started the girl group The Ronettes with her older sister Estelle Bennett and their cousin Nedra Talley. They were signed by famously volatile record producer Phil Spector to his Philles Record label and there they had their breakthrough hit Be My Baby. She married Spector and as she writes in the book, it was clear she had made a big mistake when she woke up one morning to the sound of bars being installed on the windows of their mansion. She smartly fought for the rights to her music in the subsequent divorce, and she was eventually inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and had a second wind when reprised her most famous hit in singing a duet with Eddie Money on Take Me Home Tonight.

A24, which already has a notable and established relationship with Zendaya, netted the film after it was once primed to be at Fox before it was bought by Disney. Zendaya became the second Black woman and the youngest actress to win Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama series for her work on Euphoria.

She’ll be seen next in Warner Bros.’ Dune and Netflix’s Malcolm and Marie.

More to come.
