Euphoria star Dominic Fike revealed that he was nearly fired from the popular HBO series for drug use and stated that he was “f****d up” during most of filming season 2.

TVLine reports that Fike told Apple Music about his brush with being fired over the incident, saying he was dealing with his existing drug addiction while working on a show specifically about characters struggling with drugs.

“I was a drug addict, and coming onto a show mainly about drugs was very difficult,” he said. He also added that Sam Levinson hired a sober coach for him to consult.

“I was so f—ed up during a lot of that show,” Fike said, confirming that some of the scenes in which Fike was inebriated made it into the series.

“But I was reprimanded for it. I almost got kicked off the show,” he said. “They took me aside. They were like, ‘Bro, you cannot be doing this.'”

Per the interview, Fike seems to note that he is expected set to return to the show’s third season, expected to come no earlier than 2025. Despite possible awkwardness with his co-star and ex-real-life girlfriend Hunter Schafer, Fike said that he has “a better dynamic” with everyone now.

“We’re all adults, kind of,” he said. “I’m trying.”
