Lionsgate revealed, via its Twitter page, that Evan Ross has been cast to play a character named Messalla in The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, parts 1 and 2.

No, not Messala from Ben-Hur (1959), but Messalla from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay, who, according to the Hunger Games wiki…

… was part of a TV crew that films propaganda films for the war as part of the Airtime Assault. He was the assistant to the director, Cressida. He was originally from the Capitol but had joined the rebels in the war.

I assume those of you who are Hunger Games fans know what the heck all that means, because I don’t.

He’s described physically as a slim young man with several sets of earrings, and a pierced tongue.

Up next for Ross, he plays Dallas Austin in VH1’s biopic on pop/hip hop/R&B group TLC, titled Crazy, Sexy, Cool: The TLC Story

The first part of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay hits theaters November 21, 2014 and the conclusion a year later, on November 20, 2015.
The next installment in the blockbuster franchise, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, will hit theaters November 22.
