Legendary rapper and artist André 3000 surprised the world with two new singles released on Mother's Day.
Without notice, André 3000 graced us with two jazz-infused tracks, “Me & My (To Bury Your Parents)” and “Look Ma No Hands,” that will make any person wail up.
Mother's Day is a perfect time to show love to the most important woman in many people's lives. It is also a time for reflection.
In “Me & My,” the other half of rap duo Outkast does both. The song was written before his parents died but it was recorded three years ago after both of his parents passed away. It features a jazz collaboration with musician James Blake.
The other track, "Look Ma No Hands,” was recorded late last year. Cool vocals compliments the instrumentals along with the Atlanta musician's playing of the bass clarinet.
André officially joined Instagram to share some insight into the making of the songs. His first few posts included the last text message from his mother Sharon Benjamin-Hodo who died one day after his birthday in 2013. A year later his father passed away.
"Happy birthday. Everyone is wishing you a such a perfect day," she wrote in the text. "Whatever you do be careful in all things. This is your time don't let mistakes happen."
He sent a message out to his fans reinforcing the importance of a mother's love.
“Happy Mother's Day,” he wrote in one of the captions on Instagram. “I'm sure all the cards, dinners, flowers and last minute gifts are appreciated but I've learned the best gift a parent could get is to simply know their child is ok.”
So #Andre3000 shares a song on Mother’s Day about his mom who passed on his bday…& his dad who passed a year later and damn man this his heartbreakingly amazing https://t.co/qVCIDV2STc Just wow @therealandre3000benjamin
