When she’s not engaging with her co-hosts on daytime talk show The Real, Sister Sister actress Tamera Mowry-Housley is the star of another series:The Housley Life on YouTube.
The family-centric web series stars Tamera and her husband, former Fox News journalist Adam Housley, their son Aden, 7, and daughter Ariah, 4.
The two join their parents in the digital space where viewers are invited to “do life together" as they bake, do hair and go on outdoor adventures. Here are a few things we know about the star family:
1. In the Housley home, listening is the major parental key.
On an episode of The
Real, Tamera advocated for daily rituals like having dinner with your kids because those activities grant her insight into her children’s lives. She told the panel that these moments breach sensitive parenting matters.
“I think what I'm gonna do is just take cues and clues, I’m just literally gonna watch him,” Tamera explained. “That's what we're working on now so I can ask him, ‘how was your day at school?’"
When co-host Loni Love asked who would be the one to have “the talk” with Aden years later, Tamera said, “I think we both should. Adam's gonna give the male perspective and I'll give the female perspective.”
2. They all they got, mom Tamera says.
In a conversation with Essence, Tamera opened up about the joys and pains of parenting, a task she says could not have higher stakes.
“I am trying to instill some really good characteristics and morals into my children’s lives. I taught them at the very young age the song clean up, clean up,” Tamera said. “I just got tired of cleaning up after them! After a while I was just like guys, ‘I’m your mom. I’m not your maid. You have to learn how to do this yourself.’”
Naturally, Tamera's Instagram feed hosts picturesque moments of the pair cleaning their way through quarantine.
“I’m done having kids. My kids are at the age right now—and I talked about this on The Real — where parenting is work," the 41-year-old told the magazine.
The Housley kids, Aden and Ariah, dot the daytime TV host’s Instagram feed. Underneath a picture of the foursome, Tamera wrote: “It’s a lot harder than you think to get a picture of the four of us.”
3. Ariah is a daddy’s girl.
4. Tamera says her kids taught her that “comparison is the thief of joy.”
The Goodnites brand partner shared in an article for SheKnows that the parents’ journey through potty training was fraught with uphill battles.
“I started to wonder, 'What have I done wrong?' I won’t lie. … I began questioning myself as a parent. No one really talks about this stuff,” Tamera said.
Still, the actress explained, there were small victories.
“It may not seem like a big deal, but I feel much more relaxed about parenting and life in general now. All these unexpected blips on the child-raising road remind me … to do what works best for my family. One of my favorite sayings is, ‘comparison is the thief of joy.’"
Today, Aden, who will be 8 this November, is a “big boy,” Tamera says.
5. Aden and Ariah are two peas in a pod.
Pictures of the pair color Tamera's Instagram feed.
It's clear that the Housley siblings keep their parents on their toes.
