Nick Gordon, the ex-boyfriend of Bobbi Kristina Brown, died Wednesday of a suspected drug overdose in Florida reports CBS News. He was 30 years old.
Gordon's death was confirmed via a statement by his attorney, Joe S. Habachy.
"While I cannot speak to the specific circumstances of his death, I can say that it's been truly heartbreaking to have witnessed first hand the total devastation that drug addiction has wreaked upon a group of young friends, all of whom were loved and had immense potential," Habachy stated.
"Despite all of the incredible challenges Nick faced over the last few years I can honestly say that he worked hard to hold his head up and stay sober and that he genuinely wanted a happy healthy life with his family more than anything else," the attorney continued.
"We are devastated by the loss of my beautiful brother, He leaves a void in the hearts of my family and his friends. Nick's battle in life was not an easy one. I will be forever grateful that my God afforded a small moment at the very end of Nick's life, and I was able to hold his hand as he journeyed on," Jack Walker Jr. said according to People.
Before his death, Gordon's life was marred with controversy. He and Brown went public with their romance after Houston's death in 2012. In 2015, Brown died at 22 years old after being in a coma for six months. An autopsy later revealed Brown had morphine, cocaine, alcohol and prescription drugs in her system. Despite the findings, the medical examiner couldn't determine her exact cause of death as reported by USA Today.
Gordon was held civilly liable for the death of Brown. In a wrongful death lawsuit, he was accused of giving her a fatal cocktail then placing her face down in a bathtub full of water. Gordon was ordered to pay $36 million to Brown's estate reports ABC 7.
Brown and Gordon's relationship was frowned upon by some because Gordon lived with Houston and Brown as an orphan in 2007. Gordon was welcomed into the home after Houston divorced Bobby Brown.
At a point in time, Brown and Gordon were engaged.
Though Gordon was never legally adopted or included in Houston's will, he paid homage to the singer by getting a tattoo of the famed singer's face emblazoned on his arm.
Brown's estate has not commented on Gordon's death, and details of Gordon's funeral have not been revealed.
