Less than a month after it received a funding commitment from Orange Digital Ventures, a subsidiary of by behemoth French telecommunications group Orange, in an effort to participate in continental Africa’s booming content production and distribution market, France-based Afrostream, the growing SVOD platform showcasing films and TV series of the African diaspora Orange’s involvement (serving mostly Europe and Africa), has now inked a multi-year deal with USA-based Sony Pictures Television to distribute 55 movies

and 3 TV series on its streaming platform, which is accessible via mobile devices and connected TVs, helping to expand Afrostream’s premium content catalog.

Coming to the streaming platform next month, under this new deal, will be films like the ensemble cast family drama “This Christmas;" as well as “Think like a Man;" the cartoon series “The Boondocks;" “Boyz N the Hood;" “Bad Boys” and others.

Afrostream is currently available in France, Belgium, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Senegal and Ivory Coast, and will open its services to English speaking countries by the end of 2016.

With 15 million afro-descendants in Europe and more than 900 million sub-Saharan Africans,

Afrostream’s aim is to make Black entertainment accessible to an untapped audience waiting to legally access

movies, series and documentaries featuring characters they can identify with, all over the world. And with this new deal, Afrostream broadens its catalog, giving access to

movies and series that have never been exported to European French-speaking countries or to continental Africa, to an audience eager to discover them.

Subscription packages range from $8 per month to $68 per year, with premium

content available in both their original versions, or with French subtitles.

Afrostream is also part of Y Combinator, the well-known Silicon Valley start-ups accelerator, and has

a partnership with MYTF1VOD, the VOD service of TF1, Europe’s largest TV channel.
