I've seen it twice already – the original cut at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and again about a week ago, at a press screening here in NYC.

But I still just might see it a third time, if only because of where this particular screening is being held (and the borough's relationship to the filmmaker and the film) as well as the fact that the filmmaker, Spike Lee, will be present for a Q&A afterward; Spike is almost always an edutaining speaker, as any previous Q&A, interview, chat, conversation he's been involved in will show.

And this time, he'll be home – Brooklyn; and you know how we do when we're at "home," with family, compared to when we're "out" in public, among strangers.

The details below; and even though the film does open on the 10th in a limited release (NYC being one of the first cities to get it) I'd suggest you get your tickets now, because I anticipate this will be a sold-out affair, and will sell out quickly.

Spike Lee’s RED HOOK SUMMER

Spike Lee in person!

Exclusive Brooklyn theatrical engagement starts Aug 10

With Clarke Peters, Nate Parker, Thomas Jefferson Byrd, Toni Lysaith, Jules Brown.

Spike Lee returns to Brooklyn in this moving tale of a young boy from middle-class Atlanta who comes to the projects of Red Hook to spend the summer with his deeply religious grandfather. Between his grandfather's relentless preaching and the culture shock of inner-city life, his summer appears to be a disaster until he meets a pretty girl his age. Featuring Lee reprising his iconic role of Mookie from Do the Right Thing, Red Hook Summer ranks among the director's most powerful and provocative films.
