Film Life has announced the launch of The ABFF Hollywood Awards, an
online platform created by the American Black film Festival, to recognize the work of people of African descent in the film industry, as well as outstanding films portraying the varied experiences of Black people nationally.

during annual Hollywood’s awards season.
The 2014 winners will be revealed in a 5-minute “web show” scheduled to broadcast on
www.abffhollywoodawards.com at the close of Black History Month on Friday, February 28th, with comedian Chris Spencer (Executive Producer/Creator of BET’s Real Husbands of Hollywood) hosting.
The online event will feature Spencer tracking down each winner to present their Award trophy, as well as capture their acceptance speech.
“Over the past 17 years, the ABFF’s supporters have been the most committed to Black cinema.
We created The ABFF Hollywood Awards to give them a voice. We typically don’t have much
opportunity to support our artists during the annual award season, and this provides that outlet
for us,” said Jeff Friday, ABFF founder and CEO of Film Life, Inc.
The nominees in eleven categories – Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Actress, Best
Supporting Actress, Best Director, Best Screenplay, Best Ensemble Cast, Breakthrough
Performance, Artist of the Year, Film of the Year and Studio of the Year – will be selected by a
blue-ribbon jury of film critics and industry professionals.
Winners will be
selected by the general public, including the 90,000+ ABFF alumni around the world. Public
voting goes live on January 13 through January 24, at www.abffhollywoodawards.com.
The Awards and Film Festival are a part of the ABFF brand’s global initiative to showcase Black
artists, stories and culture to a broader audience, promoting its universal appeal.
