Two weeks ago, they challenged your hunger for change, asking if you were enough of a black indie film rebel, all in an effort to encourage you to join the AFFRM campaign (the African-American Film Festival Releasing Movement and its subsidiary Array Releasing), which required you to first watch a rather no-frills, though effective video presentation, and then sign up for a membership.
Today, that effort continues, with the announcement that, tomorrow, Friday, December 20, 2013, AFFRM will host what the team dubs a “9 hour Rebel-a-thon” on Twitter, exalting Black Cinema!
In short, celebrated filmmakers you’ll surely recognize like Julie Dash, Ava DuVernay, Ryan Coogler, Gina Prince-Bythewood, Victoria Mahoney, Justin Simien, Patrik-Ian Polk and more, will be taking over the AFFRM Twitter account (@AFFRM), one at a time, in 15-minute to hour-long blocks, for 9 straight hours, to converse about and champion black cinema.
The 9-hour Rebel-a-thon begins at 8AM PST (11AM EST), with Julie Dash on the virtual microphone, who I’m sure will drop a few nuggets on film artistry, and film industry, before eventually dropping said virtual mic, which will then be picked up by Patrik-Ian Polk at 8:15AM PST (11:15AM EST)… and so on, and so forth.
