Aries Spears has received quite a bit of backlash in recent weeks. Most recently, for the child sexual abuse allegations against him and fellow comedian Tiffany Haddish, and just prior to that, for his fatphobic and unfunny comments about Lizzo’s body.

Many have shared their thoughts on Spears regarding both accounts, and several celebrities have publicly clowned the 47-year-old former MadTV star over his unprovoked shots at the singer. The latest celeb to take aim at Spears is fellow comedian and actor Faizon Love, who called Spears “stupid” and shared his take on what he believes inspired the comments.

In case you missed it, Spears shared his comments about Lizzo while appearing on The Art of Dialogue. He was asked about her music, but instead, responded that the singer’s body type distracted his ability to enjoy her bops.

“I can’t get past the fact that she looks like the s**t emoji,” Spears said. “She’s got a very pretty face, but she keeps showing her body off like, come on, man.”

He continued, acknowledging that he’s not “the most in shape” but he does think he is “funny, has swagger and confidence, and is at least decent looking.”

“I think I’m at least handsome,” he expressed.

While he believes he can get away with it, Spears doesn’t think women can.

“A woman that’s built like a plate of mashed potatoes is in trouble,” Spears told interviewers.

Later, Spears, who has type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol,  described the “hypocrisy” in women who support the body confidence movement and celebrate “sisterhood,” but neglect to address the health risks typically associated with people with bigger bodies, like “diabetes,” “heart problems,” “heart disease” and “cholesterol.”

“Y’all will jump on me for making jokes but y’all won’t f**king be real and go, ‘Sister, put the éclair down. This ain’t it. It’s treadmill time.'”

Faizon Love responds to Aries Spears' comments.

Days later, The Art of Dialogue caught up with Faizon Love, who expressed that he vehemently disagrees with Spears’ comments.

“The comments in itself are stupid,” he said.

He went on to praise the singer, claiming that Spears’ disdain for the “About Damn Time” singer stems from anger over his shortcomings as a comic.

“I mean, Lizzo is a phenomenon, and she’s talented, and he’s not so talented,” said Love. “He’s got one gear. He’s a, ‘Yo, son.’ But if you know the story of Aries Spears, he’s the guy we saw on Def Jam as a kid. He was 13 and 14 years old. They flew him to Hollywood, thinking he would be the next Eddie Murphy and womp, womp! He was so angry.”

Love said that he, as well as many other comedians, have had ongoing issues with Spears. He also said they’ve almost come to blows.

“I was going to slap the s**t out of him one time,” Love said. “This dumb muthaf**ka. So many muthaf**kas was gonna whoop his ass because he was this cocky kid. He would get deals, South of Sunset was one of the shows, and they would go nowhere like womp, womp!”

Love said he sees Lizzo as a “rock star” and one of a kind, while Spears is trying to copy a mold carved by comedians who came before him, Love said.

“Here comes Lizzo, takes the world by storm. Bam! She plays the flute, which is amazing because Brick was the last person I know who made the flute fly,” said Love. “Her doing all that other stuff is just her being a rock star. Every rock star doesn’t have to look like Alicia Keys or whatever. That’s what makes her Lizzo. But he doesn’t understand that because he’s so busy trying to fit Eddie Murphy’s mold.”

“[Spears] don’t know style,” Love added. “He don’t know flyness. Lizzo’s fly. He don’t know. He’s corny himself. You have to know his story. Cornball with a soapbox.”

For over eight minutes, Faizon Love lit into Aries Spears, and Love isn’t the only comedian who has negative thoughts toward Spears. Shortly after Spears’ initial comments toward Lizzo, comedian and actor Mike Epps also had a few words.
