People across the globe are expressing their sorrow on Wednesday as they reflect on the two-year anniversary of the devastating plane crash which took the lives of Kobe Bryant, his daughter and seven other beloved community members. Many of those who are reflecting on the tragic event include Bryant's fans, friends and former colleagues.

Shareef O'Neal, the son of Shaquille O'Neal, remembers the message he received from Bryant shortly before the tragedy.

"1/26 the last day you reached out to me ..this is always going to be a hard day for me.. RIP love you kobe and gigi," Shareef wrote.

The young basketball star previously shared the text he received from Bryant.

“You good fam?” Bryant wrote to Shareef on the morning of the crash. 

According to HuffPost, Shareef answered back, saying he had been figuring out his “next move.”

But the young man didn't have a chance to continue the conversation.

“I wish I didn’t sleep in so I could’ve talked to you,” Shareef wrote on Instagram in 2020. “I can’t even think straight right now.. I’m glad we got to bond over the years .. not only were you a great uncle you were a coach and a mentor to me too .. I love you man..thank you for everything you’ve done .. for this city , for the basketball world , and for me … I won’t let you down .. you always counted on me and lifted me up. Love you unc."

Ciara also took time on Wednesday to honor Bryant, posing for a photo while wearing his jersey.

"Forever & Always in our hearts. Kobe & Gigi #2 #24," the artist wrote.

Russell Wilson echoed Ciara's sentiment.

Bryant's former teammate Lamar Odom said he is constantly thinking about the basketball legend, who he considers a brother.

The Los Angeles Sparks are honoring the father and daughter, along with John, Keri and Alyssa Altobelli, Christina Mauser, Sarah and Payton Chester, and Ara Zobayan.

Some fans said they were still in disbelief.

Some of Bryant's closest friends are also reflecting outside of social media. NBA Hall of Famer Jerry West honored the basketball superstar when he recently spoke with The New York Times.

"[Bryant] was just one of those unique players that comes along," West told the Times. "He had a big personality. He was very bright. He was going to be a bigger success off the court than on the court. He was taken away too young."

Bryant was traveling to his youth sports academy for a basketball game, along with his daughter, 13-year-old Gianna Bryant, her teammates and their parents, when the plane crashed at a wooded hillside in Calabasas, California, Sports Illustrated reports. The Los Angeles Lakers legend was 41 years old.
