This year’s TwitchCon possibly left some attendees with nightmares rather than memories. The convention, tagged as “the ultimate squad up,” is the annual gathering event for the live-streaming platform, Twitch.

Like most in-person conventions, TwtichCon took a break in 2020 and 2021. But they returned this past weekend at the San Diego Convention Center, promoting this year’s meet-up as the biggest one yet. Blavity previously reported that they announced Megan Thee Stallion as their headliner for an all-female lineup concert at this year’s party.

Fans and streamers were excited to resume face-to-face interaction after two years, but some instances proved that the virtual world might be safer.

One of the incidents — on a long list of mishaps — was captured by TikTok user @DramaForTheGirls. In the clip, an unidentified fan runs on the stage during Meg’s performance, grabs her and then proceeds to twirl the rapper around. Even though the fan seemed harmless, security intervened.

The fan running up on the Houston hottie was quickly handled, but it seemed more chaos occurred inside the convention center.

TwitchCon had a large foam brick pit that could be used for attendees and streamers to jump into. What could have been a cool space for picture opportunities ultimately became a safety hazard.

Well-known Twitch streamer AdrianaChechik thought a jump in the pit would be fun, but it ended really badly for her.

Under her Twitter account, @ChechikTv, she reposted a video, captured by user @ClippyChimp, of her jumping into the pit.

The user captioned the video, “Adriana Chechik (@ChechikTv) looks seriously hurt after jumping in the foam pit. Looks like #TwitchCon cheaped out on the padding and amount of foam.”

Chechik went on to confirm her injury.

“Well, I broke my back in two places and am getting surgery to put a meter rod in for support today. Send your support. When it rains it pours and I am definitely feeling the rain right now.”

Many fans watched the live-streamed convention from the safety of their homes as other Twitch streamers and fans continuously hurt themselves in the foam pit.

Streamer @LochVaness, posted the moment she lost trust in Twitch.

“I will never be able to trust @Twitch at another convention in my entire life. Here’s how I dislocated my knee and sprained my ankle at their Lenovo Legion booth”

@LochVaness went on to document her injury.

@LochVaness spoke with fans as she received medical attention and revealed that although it was seen by millions of viewers, the convention might not be held liable for her injury.

Viewers of the convention’s live stream were horrified to see the pit racking up a body count.

NBC News reported that “the pit platforms were about 2 feet high, and the pit was about a foot deep.” Allegedly it was a flat concrete surface under the short distance of foam bricks.

This could injure anyone jumping from a higher platform.

Streaming journalist @ZachBussey, reported live from the convention and tweeted when the company decided to pull the plug.
