Fashion icon and journalist André Leon Talley passed away at 73 years old on Tuesday, TMZ reports.
The former Vogue creative director and editor-at-large died at a hospital in White Plains, New York.
Fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg shared the news on her Instagram page late Tuesday night, saying, "Good bye darling André."
"no one saw the world in a more glamorous way than you did ❤️????… no one was grander and more soulful than you were ❤️????…the world will be less joyfulI ❤️???? I have loved you and laughed with you for 45 years…. I miss your loud screams …I love you soooo much ❤️????," she continued in her post.
Talley was influential in the fashion world for six decades, according to The Hollywood Reporter. During his time working with Vogue, Talley worked closely with Anna Wintour. He went on to discuss his relationship with Wintour in a 2020 memoir, saying he had "huge emotional and psychological scars from my relationship with this towering influential woman," the Daily Beast reports.
"Simple human kindness. No, she is not capable," he wrote at the time.
Talley went on to be named the artistic director of Zappos Couture and was on the board of trustees at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), according to PBS. He had also written multiple books, including Valentino, A.L.T.: André Leon Talley and Little Black Dress.
Talley's cause of death was not immediately shared.
