It's 2am & just got up for the 1st day of FF6. Always love the calm & silence of the night b4 going on set. Let's go shoot a f@#kin' movie!
Words tweeted by director Justin Lin very early this morning.
Of course FF6 is Fast & Furious 6, the 6th film in the successful franchise featuring dudes, chicks, and lots of fast cars. Principal photography has officially begun, whether you like it or not!
In December, star Vin Diesel said that this, the sixth installment of the franchise, would be split into two movies. Diesel reportedly said that during the planning process of the new movie, the Fast and Furious creative team realized that they would need a seventh movie to tell the full storyScreenplays for the sixth and seventh were being written simultaneously.
“With the success of this last one, and the inclusion of so many characters, and the broadening of scope, when we were sitting down to figure out what would fit into the real estate of number six, we didn’t have enough space.”
And with the tease at the end of #5 of the return of a character played by Eva Mendes, last seen in 2 Fast 2 Furious, as well as the return of Michelle Rodriguez, “We have to pay off this story, we have to service all of these character relationships, and when we started mapping all that out it just went beyond 110 pages,” Diesel explained.
Just about the entire Fast Five starring cast will be returning: Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Dwayne Johnson, Tyrese Gibson, Jordana Brewster, and others.
Rihanna was rumored to be joining that cast, playing a "sultry villain" with "plenty of bite" who "doesn't take any prisoners."
No confirmation of that yet though. I guess I'll start following her on Twitter again to see if she drops any hints like, "now leaving the set of FF6. Tyrese makes me LOL," or something like that.
Details on plot for FF6 are still unknown, but the film is scheduled for a May 24, 2013 release.
Fast Five was blockbuster popcorn fun (grossing an impressive $624 million worldwide), but, even with the tease towards the end of it, I can't say that I'm looking forward to 1, let alone 2 more films in the franchise.
What else could they do with it?
