Fetty Wap was arrested by the FBI on federal drug charges on Thursday. According to NBC News, the rapper was taken into custody at Citi Field in Queens, where the Rolling Loud Festival was taking place.

The rapper, born Willie Junior Maxwell II, is expected to appear for arraignment on Friday and has been ordered to be detained pending trial. 

He's one of five other people accused of being involved in a drug operation and dealing heroin and fentanyl, according to senior law enforcement officials, ABC7 reports. Anthony Cyntje, a New Jersey correctional officer, Anthony Leonardi, his brother Robert Leonardi, Brian Sullivan and Kavaughn Wiggins were also charged with conspiring to distribute and possess controlled substances. Five of the people arrested are also facing illegal firearm possession charges in connection to drug trafficking. 

"As alleged, the defendants transported, distributed and sold more than 100 kilograms of deadly and addictive drugs, including heroin and fentanyl, on Long Island, deliberately contributing to the opioid epidemic that has devastated our communities and taken too many lives," United States Attorney Breon Peace stated. "We will continue to work nonstop with our law enforcement partners to keep our neighborhoods safe."

The indictment states the defendants allegedly operated a cross-country drug organization, trafficking illegal substances from the West Coast through the United States postal service. Fetty Wap is listed as a "kilogram-level redistributor" in the operation, ABC7 reports. 

"The fact that we arrested a chart-topping rap artist and a corrections officer as part of the conspiracy illustrates just how vile the drug trade has become," the FBI's Michael Driscoll said.

If convicted, he and the other defendants face a maximum life prison sentence. 

This isn't Fetty Wap's first major run-in with police. The "Trap Queen" rapper was previously arrested on three counts of battery for allegedly assaulting three hotel employees. He was also arrested in 2017 and charged with a DUI after police caught him drag racing on the highway in New York City.  

Tragedy struck the rapper twice within the last year after he lost two family members. His youngest brother, 26-year-old Twyshon Depew, was fatally shot in their hometown of Paterson, New Jersey, in Oct. 2020. Months later, his 4-year-old daughter Lauren died.
