As announced a week ago, the 2013 trinidad+tobago film festival (ttff), now in its 8th year, will open with Biyi Bandele’s Half Of A Yellow Sun – a film adaptation of celebrated author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Orange Prize-winning novel of the same name.

The screening at ttff will serve as the film’s Caribbean / Latin American premiere, and the second time the film will be screened, following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival just a few weeks prior.

The festival takes place from September 17th – October 1st.

Earlier today, the festival announced its Caribbean features section, which will highlight 22 feature-length Caribbean and diaspora films, including 10 fiction films and 12 documentaries.

As the festival notes on its website, the 22 films come from 14 Caribbean countries, and all but one will be making their local premiere at the Festival. Also, 9 of the films will be Caribbean premieres, while 5 will be world premieres.

We have a very strong Caribbean programme this year, films from right across the region, portraying us in all our diversity,” said Annabelle Alacazar, Program Director of the ttff. “It’s very exciting to see the main section of our programme, grow.

More section selections for this year’s edition of the festival to come.

In the meantime, check out the listing of the Caribbean Features section. Look for individual profiles of each film (those that we haven’t previously profiled) in the coming weeks, ahead of the festival.

The full lineup of Caribbean features follows. Films marked with an asterisk (*) are in competition.
