Clarence Boston, the owner of Hippin’ Hops Brewery, opened several locations in Atlanta. And now, the business owner is expanding to Charlotte and plans to open Another Brewery, a play on the growing number of Queen City breweries, next month before Thanksgiving.
On Monday, Boston told The Charlotte Observer he also plans to open Hippin’ Hops Brewery & Distillery in Charlotte’s uptown area on the ground floor of Savoy Apartments. The new location opens in December and will be the city’s first Black-owned distillery and second Black-owned brewery.

“North Carolina is our biggest customer,” Boston told the outlet of the well-known craft beer and liquor.
Hippin’ Hops Brewery was initially supposed to open in the North Davidson neighborhood. Instead, Boston partnered with Charlotte bar owner Orlando Botero for the new business venture, Another Brewery, in Bainbridge NoDa.
According to The Charlotte Observer, the duo have known each other for over two decades and wanted to offer “affordable drinks and food.”
Additionally, Boston said Hippin’ Hops Brewery & Distillery would operate out of two buildings — one for a taproom and the other for brewing and distilling — with an outdoor amphitheater.
Although Atlanta handles the brewing currently, that operation would eventually move to Charlotte, per the outlet.
The new space will provide enough room to maintain products for the business. Boston said Hippin’ Hops Charlotte would have a five-barrel system with 10-barrel fermenters producing about 1,800 barrels of beer annually. While the brewery will not have a kitchen to prepare food, Boston confirmed food trucks would be available for customers.
Both locations are expected to be successful, providing food and drinks for everyone to enjoy.
