You’d think that there would have already been a documentary
about the amazing life and career of Maya Angelou. But surprisingly there hasn’t
been one.
That is until now…
Chicago
based filmmaker Bob Hercules – who previously directed documentaries about the controversial Catholic priest and community
activist Father Michael Pfleger (Radical Disciple),
the Bill T Jones documentary, A Good Man, and Perseverance: The Story of
Dr. Billy Taylor – through his production company Media Process Group, is now well into making the first feature
length film documentary about Dr. Angelou, to be called Maya Angelou: The People’s Poet.
In addition, the film has just received two major grants – from National Endowment for the Arts and the Independent Television Service – towards both production and
post-production of the project.
No word on when the film will be ready for release, but, most likely sometime next year at the earliest.
