nullWell, here it is folks! The wait is over!

Your first look (via trailer) at Spike Lee’s much-anticipated Oldboy adaptation, which stars Josh Brolin, along with Sharlto CopleyElizabeth OlsenSamuel L. Jackson, and more, which FilmDistrict will release wide, on October 112013.

Underneath the trailer you’ll find the film’s poster.

Spike Lee directs from a script penned by Mark Protosevich, who is also co-producing, along with Roy LeeDoug Davison and Nathan Kahane of Good Universe.

October might seem like a long time from now, but it really isn’t, given how quickly the months just seem to be passing by. We’re in the middle of summer already.

Although I’m wondering if the film might actually premiere at some international film festival before then. It’ll be a perfect fit for Toronto. A TIFF premiere in September, create some buzz, build anticipation, and then it opens in USA theaters a couple of weeks later.

We’ll see.

In the meantime, watch the first full trailer below, which, as I said on Facebook last night, doesn’t immediately resemble your typical Spike Lee joint. If I didn’t know who directed this beforehand, Spike Lee wouldn’t have been my first guess. But I’m really looking forward to seeing what Spike has done with the material, how/if he incorporates the usual Spike-isms, and how he puts his own stamp on this beloved cult classic.

Those who’ve seen Park Chan-wook’s original adaptation of the manga, will certainly recognize scenes in the below trailer for Spike’s version, that were in Park’s first film; although it’s unclear whether the plot is exactly the same, and what changes have been made. To say anymore about plot would be to ruin the film for those unfamiliar with the original, so I’ll say no more.

Watch for a glimpse at what to expect:
