With Valentine's Day right around the corner, we are reminded of beautiful relationships (or lack thereof) by the decorations, jewelry store commercials, aisles in Target filled with cute gifts, and Instagram feeds that are constant thumb swipes of scrolling past pictures of couples. For the single folks in the room, it can be a hard pill to swallow. Whether you don't have a significant other by choice or by circumstance, having a healthy relationship with yourself is the first step to anything, single or not. Here are a few things you can do to keep your sanity next week and not be kneck deep in "I hate Love" memes.

Treat yourself

I am a fan of doing nice things for yourself. Treat you like you would want someone else to treat you.  Get a fresh haircut, massage, manicure, or something that usually don't do for yourself.

Plan something with your friends

I'm gon' go call my crew, you go call your crew. We can rendezvous at the bar around 2.. but really at the house around 7. Have a get together with your friends. If you have single guy and single girlfriends have people come over and kick it! Why not get together if you won't be doing anything else?

Galentine's

Grab your girls and go to dinner. Pick a place that you have been wanting to try, put on your favorite little black dress and go have fun.

Date night in

If going out isn't your thing or you prefer to stay in, cook yourself dinner or order from your favorite place. Read a book. Do laundry, draw, color and add a drink.

Stay off of social media

If seeing couples, proposals, or dates will interfere with your happiness shut it off.  Don't let what you see on social media, real or fake, dictate how you feel about yourself.

The ways to spend the day are limitless. I'm sure we can say it's just another time or a day that happens once a year, but to be honest that's easier said than done until it actually comes and you are eating a whole pizza by yourself or dramatically looking up cats for adoption. No matter how you choose to spend your day, just like everything else this too shall pass.
