Fivio Foreign received special orders from Beyoncé when he sampled Destiny’s Child’s hit song “Say My Name” for his “What’s My Name” track, featuring Coi Leray and Queen Naija. Sitting down for an interview with Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning, Fivio said Beyoncé instructed him to clean up the song because it was inappropriate.

“Beyoncé had to hear it. She heard it. It was a little vulgar, a little bit for her, at first. I cleaned it up a lot,” the rapper said. “It was like, ‘You can’t be talking about girls like that.'”

Fivio said Beyoncé’s team also helped him understand that he has to be more careful as his music gains popularity.

“Afterward, Big John and them explained to me, ‘it’s a bigger record now,’” he said. “It made sense.”

The 32-year-old didn’t know what to expect when Beyoncé’s publisher later called him to clear the record.

“He called me, it was ringing, I answered the phone and I’m like ‘hello’ and he’s like ‘you’re welcome,'” Fivio said as he reflected on the moment when he learned the song was cleared. “I’m like ‘what? It’s clear?’ He’s like ‘you’re welcome.’ I was in the house. I was going crazy.”

According to Hip Hop DX, the rapper’s debut album, B.I.B.L.E., dropped on Friday. In addition to “Say My Name,” Fivio invited Ne-Yo to sample his own 2005 hit “So Sick.” Kanye West served as an executive producer for B.I.B.L.E., which also features A$AP Rocky, Lil Yachty, Chloe, Polo G, DJ Khaled, Blueface and more.
