Flavor Flav made a guest appearance at Harvard University. On Tuesday, the rap legend and former Public Enemy member participated in an episode of Poetry in America, a PBS documentary-style series created by Harvard Professor Elisa New. The series, designed to bring poetry to the masses, has featured guests such as Nas, Shaquille O’Neal and Bill Clinton, The Root reported.
Flavor Flav, whose real name is William Jonathan Drayton Jr., sat with New and her students to examine Emily Dickinson’s work. In particular, they discussed poems such as “Publication — is the Auction,” “I’m Nobody! Who are you?” and “A Clock Stopped — Not The Mantel’s,” which the rapper recited in front of the class.
“I sound like I graduated from Harvard, and I haven’t even went to school here,” Flavor Flav said.
The rapper donated one of his iconic clock chains to Harvard’s Hip Hop Archive Research Institute — an item that has been part of his uniform over the years.
“It was pretty cool … Being here at Harvard is big. And for me to be able to come and donate one of my clocks to the University, I’m honored,” he said, according to The Harvard Gazette.
Flavor Flav also volunteered at the Harvard Square Homeless Shelter.
“When he came in with like 10 bags of bread, some of the volunteers were screaming because we’re always out of bread,” Kody Christiansen, a Harvard senior and the extension student association president, said.

“Flav is very cool, really down to earth,” Christiansen told CBS.
Flavor Flav and Christiansen spent part of the day making grilled cheese sandwiches while volunteering.
“He didn’t just cook with me out here. He hugged people. He talked to people,” Christiansen added. “It means the world, really.”
