A Florida family is mourning after a 32-year-old mother was shot to death in front of her children Tuesday morning, according to WPTV.

Maribel Rosado Morales' ex-boyfriend, Donald Williams, confessed to shooting the mother of four while one of her children was completing their first day of online school, reports FOX26.

Martin County Sheriff William Snyder explained the situation during a press conference and said there were five other children in the home at the time of the shooting.

Williams was angry about something on his phone before he shot Rosado Morales, Snyder said.

"We think most of the children in the home saw it," the sheriff said during the press conference.

"It's a sad case. It's a terrible case. He went in and confronted her with something to do with a video. Then later we learned there was a conversation about Facebook. And he says she actually started to smile at him and he became enraged and shot her," Snyder added.

Snyder told WPTV that one of the children in the home, a 10-year-old, was on Zoom with her teacher and classmates at the time of the shooting.

Police spoke with the teacher, who described everything she saw.

"The teacher's statement is that she heard a commotion. She did hear some high tone conversation, noticed some kind of confrontation, muted it, and then watched the 10-year-old put her hands up to her ears," he said, adding that none of the children in the home were injured.

CBS12 reported that the Zoom video ended shortly after the student put her hands to her ears and that the computer was struck with a bullet.

The 27-year-old ran from the house into a nearby laundromat and on to a bus before the driver called 911. He was eventually arrested by a SWAT team nearby.

In custody, Williams admitted to shooting Rosado Morales and is now facing charges of first-degree murder, armed burglary, armed home invasion and other charges.

"Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the victim’s family, including the children present in the home who were witnesses to this heartbreaking and senseless tragedy. We have our grief team deployed to assist students and staff who will undoubtedly feel the impact of this horrible incident. We stand ready to assist and offer support in any way we can," Warfield Elementary School said in a statement to CBS12.

Neighbor Jeremy Carroll told CBS12 that Rosado Morales was a "very friendly, loving, kind person." Another neighbor, Matias Domingo, said that he was worried about her children.

Snyder said the Florida Department of Children and Families would decide where her four children would go. They are between the ages of 10 and 17.

"She has family, kids. She's the mother of I think three or four or five. But being shot by a person, they shouldn't be doing that," Domingo said.
