According to a former New York City medical examiner, Jeffrey Epstein's death was more indicative of homicide than the reported suicide.

Epstein was a wealthy financier and convicted sex offender who was arrested in July at Teterboro Airport in New Jersey by federal officials as the New York Times reports

Michael Baden appeared on Fox & Friends on Wednesday to offer his informed opinion on the death of Epstein, who was awaiting trial on federal charges of sex trafficking minors.

Baden said Epstein's brother asked him to be at the autopsy, which is where he discovered the inconsistencies with a suicide hanging.

"I think the evidence points to homicide rather than suicide," Baden said. "There are multiple fractures in the hyoid bone, the thyroid cartilage, that are very unusual for suicide and more indicative of homicidal strangulation."

Baden said the doctor doing the autopsy initially said there wasn't even enough information to confirm a suicide, but the results were later changed from pending further study to suicide.

The former medical examiner also added that there was a breakdown in security.

"The video cameras didn't work, the guards went to sleep," Baden said. "There was no roommate with him, no suicide watch, no security, no videotapes that were working."

Having investigated prison deaths for more than 50 years, Baden said he has never seen a situation where two guards fall asleep at the same time and all the video surveillance doesn't work.

"The issue would be, did somebody come in and cause his death?" Baden said.

With Epstein presumed to have used bedsheets to hang himself, Baden said the family wants to know why DNA information hasn't been released from the sheets.

"It only takes a couple of days to do the DNA," Baden said. "What's the results?"

According to Baden, a majority of people who commit suicide give warning signs ahead, but Epstein was in a good mood and waiting to see if he can get out on bail.

"The camera in the cell didn't work. The camera in the hallway didn't work," Baden said. "This is bizarre."
