Former NFL star Warrick Dunn has purchased a home for a 27-year-old mother of three in Augusta, Georgia.

Dunn partnered with Augusta Housing & Community Development to give the home to Nailah Bakari, a veteran and current student.

According to FOX54 News, Dunn has now donated 171 homes, as part of a series of efforts to honor his mother who was gunned down while working as a police officer.

“At the charity we always try to find individuals that have similar characteristics that my mom had, that is commitment, sacrifice," Dunn said, according to The Augusta Chronicle. "Everyone has a story that is compelling, but usually I’m the one that is picking the individuals that are put out on the line, that are making the ultimate sacrifice to put themselves in a better environment and situation.”

Mayor Hardie Davis said the city is fortunate to have a partnership with Dunn.

"We are very happy to see the family, Nailah and her children," Hardie told The Augusta Chronicle. "They are able to move to a completely furnished (home). This is what being a part of the American Dream is all about and we are very fortunate that the 171st home is here in Augusta, right here in the Sandridge community.”

Dunn was a rookie in the NFL when he founded his Homes for the Holidays program, partnering with local organizations to turn houses into homes for single parent families through home furnishings and down-payment assistance.

According to Dunn's website, the program has provided over $800,000 in down-payment assistance and served more than 457 single parents and children.

Dunn has expanded Homes for the Holidays into three additional programs: Count on Your Future, Sculpt, and Hearts for Community Service Scholarships.

The four programs focus on combating poverty and hunger while improving the quality of lives for families academically, socially and economically.

Dunn played in the NFL for 12 years after getting drafted in the first round of the 1997 NFL Draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
