Congratulations are in order for Precious star Gabourey Sidibe and her partner, Brandon Frankel. The actress surprised fans with the news that she and Frankel are married — and have been for over a year now!
Sidibe dropped the bomb when she was a recent guest on Live with Kelly and Ryan. The hosts were still in the dark about the big news. They congratulated Sidibe for keeping her relationship solid during the pandemic and getting engaged.
She then began to outline the details of what sounded like a blissful engagement story.
“It was kind of a weird day,” she said. “We were going to get our nails done, and right before we left the house, one of the guest room’s lights was on. I went in to turn it off, and there was a big ‘will you marry me’ balloon and rose petals.”
As the hosts gushed over the romantic gesture, Sidibe claimed she ruined the surprise.
“This was three hours earlier than it was supposed to be. We were supposed to leave and then come back.”
She took a shot at Frankel, who was sitting in the audience.
“So, yeah, he’s not that great at planning things.”
Sidibe continued as everyone laughed.
“Yeah, but what was even funnier is when he did propose, he was like, ‘Well, you’ve ruined it by like seeing the balloons first.’ I was like, ‘Actually, you ruined it because I found the room.'”
The hosts continued to probe for details on her ring and upcoming nuptials. That’s when the Oscar-nominated actress dropped the bomb.
"So, the thing about weddings is I don't like them," she went on. "I really don't like them."
After this, she said, “Here’s an example of how much I don’t like weddings — I’m actually married. We got married over a year ago.”
The hosts and the audience were in total disbelief as they realized they just received breaking news.
The 39-year-old actress continued to spill the beans about her secret wedding.
“It was so small, it was just us at the kitchen table,” she added.
Still in shock, Ryan Seacrest had her break down the timeline of their relationship.
“We got engaged in 2020 and were married four months later,” she said.
Sidibe revealed that there will be a wedding at the urging of her mother-in-law, and that her disdain for weddings is rooted in her mother being a wedding singer when she was a child.
