In April, Rosario Dawson was tapped to play one of two female leads, a well as love interest to Chris Rock in his upcoming dramedy, Finally Famous.
Rounding out the starring cast, Gabrielle Union has now joined the project, signing up to play Chris Rock’s character’s “beautiful, glamorous and expensive” (according to the character breakdown) popular reality TV star fiancée.
This news according to The Wrap in an exclusive.
Rock, who wrote and will direct the film (his third time behind the camera) plays a comedian-turned-film-star who tries to reinvent himself as a serious actor. He’s also a recovering alcoholic who owes his sobriety to his fiancée (Union). Her character, eager to be more famous, tries to convince Rock to get married on her show.
Rosario Dawson plays a journalist assigned to interview Rock’s character for a New York magazine, described as a former party animal who is now sober and in a committed relationship, but sparks fly as she interviews Rock.
Scott Rudin is producing (he also produced Chris Rock’s Broadway debut, The Mother-F with the Hat).
Here’s the project’s official synopsis:
ANDRE ALLEN is a comedian turned film star who, despite the expectations of his millions of fans, is determined to reinvent himself as a “serious” actor. Although his latest pretentiously historical film project is tanking, his upcoming television wedding to pretty, popular reality star, ERICA LONG, is the biggest media event of the year. In the midst of all the frenzy leading up to his televised nuptials, Andre agrees to be interviewed for the New Yorker by CHELSEA BROWN, a gorgeous but no-frills young woman with a sharp intelligence that matches his own. It’s a feisty, funny, no-holds-barred interaction that may well change the course of both their lives…
Shooting is scheduled to begin this summer.
