Well, damn… it seems like we hadn’t heard much from Gabrielle Union over the last few years, as far as her big screen movie career is concerned. She’s done some TV since then, but the last time she was in a theatrically released movie was in 2008’s Cadillac Records, although it feels like it’s been longer than 3 years.

And suddenly, her name has come up in a number of film projects this year – all in the last month or so.

First, we know that she’s co-starring in Tyler Perry’s Good Deeds, which only recently began production; second, it was announced just this week that she’ll also be co-starring in the adaption of Steve Harvey’s best-seller, Act Like A Lady, Think Like A Man; and today brings word that she will star in an ensemble indie dramedy titled Family Tree, alongside Jena Malone, Zach Gilford and John Slattery, to be directed by Brian Savelson, from his own screenplay.

In the film, Gabrielle will play love interest to Slattery – a father estranged from his son (played by Gilford) who accidentally wind up in the same vacation home with their two girlfriends – Union being one of them obviously; and Jena Malone being the other (the son’s).

Apparently, some of the conflict will come from the fact that Ms Union is the same age as his son. Not sure if race will.

Principal photography is scheduled to begin in June, upstate NY.
