Renaissance man Gbenga Akinnagbe is attached in some capacity to two feature film projects making their debuts in Park City over the weekend (acting in Neil Drumming's feature film directorial debut titled Big Words – at Slamdance; and producing Shaka King's Newlyweeds – at Sundance).
He'll now be heading *home* to Nigeria to wear both hats – starring in and producing a crime drama titled Render to Caesar, which THR says is currently in production, with financial backing from former banker Desmond Ovbiagele, although no word on exact budget yet.
A brief description of the project, which is being directed by Onyekachi “Lucky” Ejim, follows:
Caesar revolves around two detectives stalking a psychotic crime lord in Lagos.
Ovbiagele, Akinnagbe and Omoni Oboli are producing what will be Ejim's feature film directorial debut.
No ETA yet.
But it should be quite a busy 12 months for the busy Akinnagbe: he also stars in writer/director/producer Jono Oliver's drama titled Home; and has a major recurring role on USA's new drama Graceland; he also continues to lend his acting talents to short films.
Glad to see him continue to diversify, as well as seemingly take control of his career, creating projects for himself, and producing for others. Especially pleased to see him shoot in Nigeria, with Nigerian talent, and money.
