A group of hip-hop legends and enthusiasts have banded together to create The Universal Hip-Hop Museum (UHHM).

The museum is slated to open in 2022 in the Bronx, New York, according to Amsterdam News. The Bronx is, of course, widely cited as the birthplace of hip-hop. The museum is sponsored by hip-hop legends Kurtis Blow, LL Cool J and Ice-T.

The museum will feature a recording studio, a virtual graffiti wall and various artifacts dedicated to telling hip-hop’s story.

The UHHM will also feature a “blast from the past” section that will allow visitors to immerse themselves in '70s and '80s hip-hop culture.

“I’m big on technology, so of course we will have all of the artifacts and pictures, but the hands-on is what I’m really keen on as a priority,” said Blow, who will serve as chairman of the UHHM. “A state of the art performance space with a virtual reality theater for visitors will [feature] live shows and a mixed reality experience.”

The museum will offer a student ambassador program for college students who wish to incorporate hip-hop in their studies. The UHHM is also accepting artifacts and memorabilia from the general public.

Blow believes the existence of the museum will be a great educational experience for the youth, especially the youth of New York City.

The “amazing, awesome, magical, mystical, spiritual, exciting extravaganza is something great for the [New York City] Board of Education and our young people who just want to take a field trip and learn about hip-hop,” he said.
