Feeling stuck in your current situation and think you’re ready to make that big leap for a dream? Cool. But first, you might want to get your life. Actress and funny gal Amanda Seales knows a thing or two about stepping out on faith.

In her scripted comedy series, Get Your Life, the funny gal transitions from life as a stand-up comedian in New York to a serious up and coming actress in Los Angeles.

Season one of the web series premiered in 2015 under Issa Rae’s insanely popular YouTube channel. The series begins with Amanda confronting her problematic environment in New York City. The dudes are disrespectful, the subway encounters become a little too hands-on and her job options as an actress are limited.

It’s time to go.

On a whim, Amanda jump-starts her Los Angeles lifestyle, but her NYC style isn’t exactly about that LA life. Los Angeles is a different beast and Amanda, seems to think she has all the answers. She’s in for a rude awakening.

This witty and humorous story explores modern themes in Hollywood that often pits black actresses against each other. Amanda serves up some pretty harsh truths wrapped in satire. L.A. comes with another set of issues she didn’t see coming even with her solid resume. Amanda comes across a number of interesting characters along the way including Toprah Shanks, a colorful talk show host with a gimmicky persona. Despite her hijinks, Toprah could be the gateway to Amanda’s freedom.

Actress Cree Summer, Comedian Lil Rel from The Carmichael Show and the dynamic duo, Issa Rae and Yvonne Orji stars of HBO’s Insecure, cross Amanda’s path steering her into a better understanding of what it takes to survive in L.A. as an entertainer.

The ups and downs of trying to fit in. Immense frustration when things don’t go her way. Seeking instant gratification. Amanda experiences it all building up to the season finale bringing her journey full circle. The relevancy and timeliness of Amanda’s colorful adventures highlight the struggles for black women entertainers, ultimately proving how strong we are when we work together. You might even see a little bit of yourself in Amanda’s many hangups.

Get Your Life is really about getting out of your own way. Preach!
