When Vanessa spoke with director Antoine Fuqua earlier this year, and asked him about the status of his Suge Knight project, Fuqua said the film was almost done. But no news about it since that February interview.

The project is one in a series of new documentaries produced by Showtime that will spotlight iconic and controversial figures to be overseen by filmmakers. 

Suge Knight will of course participate in the doc, which will discuss his rise to fame, why it fell apart and what’s next. 

The former CEO of Death Row Records is credited with launching the careers of Snoop Dogg and P Diddy, among others.

The effort also doubles as Knight’s return to the music business, as Knight set to oversee the film’s soundtrack, which will feature original tracks from new and established performers, through his new company Black Kapital.

Black Swan’s Bradley J. Fisher will produce alongside Fuqua.

Skip ahead to today to news that Gillie Da Kid will portray Tupac Shakur in the film – so says Gillie Da Kid in a recent video interview with AllHipHop.com.

Since this is supposed to be a documentary, and not a scripted work of historical fiction, I can only guess that Gillie will play Tupac in staged sequences reenacting moments from Suge’s life that Tupac was present for.

What else could it be? It’s a documentary.

No word yet on when the film will premiere on Showtime, but if it’s just about done at this point, it may be on the cable TV network’s lineup for next season,
