Tonight at New York’s Harlem Stage, Black Documentary Collective will screen The Black Girl Project, a documentary that takes a look at nine African American women between the ages of 18 and 21 as they speak of hope, triumphs, education, sex, relationships, abuse, love and more.
Directed by filmmaker/educator Aiesha Turman, the film has grown into a full-fledged movement to support and empower young women and girls by hosting dialogues and direct outreach across the country.
Hip hop artist Toni Blackman will moderate the Q&A with Turman after the program, which also includes a screening of Kiri Davis’ 2006 short on colorism, A Girl Like Me.
Doors open at 7:30pm. For details and tickets, visit Harlem Stage.
