The Golden State Warriors made their annual trip to Washington, D.C., as NBA champions on Thursday. After their first title in 2015, the team visited the White House and celebrated their championship with then-President Barack Obama.
Following the Warriors’ 2017 title, the team was disinvited to the White House by President Donald Trump after criticizing Obama's successor about his comments regarding Black players kneeling during the national anthem. Instead of meeting with Trump, the San Francisco Chronicle writes the team visited the National Museum of African American History and Culture, touring the facility with scholars from player Kevin Durant's hometown of Mount Pleasant, Maryland.
For their second trip to the nation's capital as NBA champions under Trump, the Warriors reconnected with an old friend: Barack Obama. The exchange happened on Thursday, hours before the team took the court to play against the Washington Wizards.

According to ESPN writer Ramona Shelburne, point guard Steph Curry organized the reunion and had no intention of making their interaction public.
The Warriors players-only meeting with former president Barack Obama’s was arranged by Stephen Curry, according to a team official. But it was meant to stay private, rather become a political statement.

Per The Mercury News, players and Obama met for about an hour. Following their 126-118 win over the Wizards, Warriors coach Steve Kerr was asked about the details of their conversation. However, he refused to reveal any specifics.
"That's private," Kerr answered. "Appreciate the question. Doesn’t mean I have to answer it."
Forward Draymond Green provided a similar response.
"It was good," said Green. "Private team meeting and team event."
It's unclear how the team plans to commemorate their 2018 title or if the Obama linkup was their celebration.
