Legendary songwriter LaShawn Daniels passed away at the young age of 41 on Wednesday, according to The Independent. The New Jersey native leaves behind a wife and three children. His wife, April, wrote on Instagram that Daniels was killed in a car crash in South Carolina.
"It is with deep and profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, family member and friend Lashawn Daniels, who was the victim of a fatal car accident in South Carolina," she said.
"A Grammy award-winning producer and songwriter, Daniels was a man of extraordinary faith and a pillar in our family. We would like to express our sincere appreciation for the continuous outpouring of love and sympathy," she added.
Known by his friends as Big Shiz, Daniels penned a trove of the greatest hit singles over the last 40 years.
Daniels wrote all-time classics like Michael Jackson's "You Rock My World," Brandy and Monica's "The Boy Is Mine," "It's Not Right (But It's Okay)" by Whitney Houston and "Say My Name" by Destiny's Child.
He won a Grammy for his work on "Say My Name" in 2001.
With producer Rodney “Darkchild” Jerkins, Daniels also wrote decades of classics like “Lose My Breath” by Destiny’s Child, “Telephone” by Lady Gaga and Beyoncé and “If You Had My Love” by Jennifer Lopez.
He spent years crafting smash singles for artists like 50 Cent, Ray J, the Spice Girls, George Michael, Mary J Blige, Alicia Keys, Toni Braxton, Michael Jackson and Janet Jackson.
Daniels and his wife April also became regular figures on reality shows Braxton Family Values and Tamar & Vince. His most recent Grammy nomination came from his work with Tamar Braxton’s single “Love and War.”
Dozens of music's most famous artists, writers and producers flooded social media with condolences and reminders of how important Daniels was to pop music history.

Yooooo I’m lost. Lashawn Daniels died?!!!! I’m stuck. This man took my vocal ability to new levels while working in Dirty Money. One of the funniest people with the best heart. A rare talent and a beautiful soul.
