It’s a collaboration that only makes sense and one that people have been waiting for, Gucci Mane is finally teaming up with Gucci.
Following his announcement for his next album, Woptober II, which is expected to be released on October 17, Guwop dropped the news that he is collaborating with the fashion brand. The two are working together on Gucci's new ComeAsYouAre_RSVP cruise campaign.
According to Hot New Hip Hop, one of the photos captured by film director Harmony Korine during the campaign shoot in Italy will be the cover art for Gucci Mane’s new album.
Speculations of a collaboration between the rapper and fashion house began swirling during Milan Fashion Week. The Atlanta, Georgia, rapper and his wife, Keyshia Ka’oir, were seen sitting front row during the fashion show.
Gucci Mane worked directly with creative director Alesandro Michele to assemble his special collection for the campaign.
While a release date has not been announced for the collection, we're hoping that this is a step in the right direction for the Italian brand after receiving intense backlash for its offensive blackface sweater earlier this year.
During Black History Month, Gucci released an $890 knit sweater turtleneck that included a mouth hole surrounded by large red lips, causing a whirlwind of fierce debate on social media.
Some Twitter users defended the fashion brand while many others, including Atlanta rapper T.I., denounced the brand for its careless decision to produce and promote the questionable item.
"Y’all knew wtf y’all was doin and WE AINT GOING FOR IT!!!," T.I. wrote in a fiery post on Instagram.
Others like Spike Lee, Soulja Boy, Russell Simmons and Waka Flocka voiced their distaste with Gucci and Prada, who similarly sold bag charms that resembled blackface caricatures in December 2018.
The Atlanta rapper's upcoming release of Woptober II will also mark his 101st project to date, according to The Fader.
