I should've done this early in the week, but forgot to do so. Better late than never; however, you have a lot less time to post your responses, since the film opens today.

How much time? about 5 hours from now – 6pm EST (3pm PST).

I'll make this quick: Alex Cross opens on over 2,500 screens today – the widest release ever for a movie starring Tyler Perry; Many, like myself, have wondered how it would do at the box office; whether his base would show up and support Tyler Perry as a PG13 Charles Bronson, or if they'll stay away, waiting for the next Madea movie to hit theaters.

Repeating what I've said in previous posts: Average total box office for Tyler Perry movies WITH Madea – roughly $60 million; Average box office total for Tyler Perry movies WITHOUT Madea – about $40 million. So, clearly, Madea movies, on average, have done better than non-Madea Tyler Perry movies.

Will that trend continue with Alex Cross? We'll just have to wait to see, starting with this opening weekend's numbers.

Yes, reviews have been terrible, currently with a low, low 9% rating on Rotten Tomatoes; this is Tyer Perry's worst-reviewed film ever.

BUT, as many have already stated, Tyler Perry movies tend to be critic proof, so despite the fact that it's a non-Madea movie, and those don't do as well as his Madea movies, whetherh Alex Cross does well or not, likely won't be because of what critics have said about it.

And to that end, he's appealing to his fans to prove the critics wrong, and go see the film this weekend; he posted this message to them this morning:

"There are a lot of people who think I can't do this. There are also a lot of people who think you won't show up because I'm not playing Madea. There are also a lot of people who are working overtime to try to discourage you from seeing Alex Cross as they do with all of my films… I'm hoping you'll prove them all wrong… I'm so hoping you are planning on going out to see Alex Cross this weekend… You know that the opening weekend is how you're judged in Hollywood. So if you can, please try to get out this weekend. Be sure to check your ticket stubs to make certain they say 'Alex Cross'… You're the real critics… I know you may not know this, but there is a lot riding on this film. This is the first time that I have ever been considered for a role like this. Hollywood has never even offered it to me. I've done my best and I've done all I can. It's in your hands now… Take someone with you if you can. This is an experience that should be shared." 

Will it work? I dunno. We'll find out. He sends these kinds of messages out to his fans before every movie, and they don't always make a difference.
