Haitians are perplexed after seeing the woman crowned Miss Global Haiti. Some are criticizing the organizers for giving the title to Dr. Farah Fourcand despite Haiti being predominantly Black.

On her Instagram page, Fourcand describes herself as a neurointerventional surgeon, activist, author, model and entrepreneur. According to Newsone, she’s one of 73 women competing for the Miss Global crown. The pageant will be held in Bali, Indonesia, this year.

According to her LinkedIn page, Fourcand also works as the director of a COVID-19 clinical study trial in New Jersey. She is the author of Pandemic Manifesto: COVID-19 Basic Training From the Frontlines.

In a press release published in 2020, the author said the book “takes a deep dive into viral basics, the history of pandemics, clinical trial design, evidence-based medicine, and the psychological impact of COVID-19.”
