Created by actor and writer David Crownson, Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer is the comic we need right now.
In November of 2016, Crownson launched a Kickstarter campaign with the initial goal of $15,000 to get the comic off the ground but this amount was quickly met by a slew of backers enthusiastic about the project. By late December, the campaign was completed and backers continued to donate pushing the grand total to the $21,649.
After violent events in Charlottesville and a new HBO show about the Confederacy on the horizon, this is the alternate history tale black people should look forward to."When slave owners can't stop the formidable ninja warrior Harriet Tubman, they call on the help of Vampires, Werewolves, Witches, & Demons to stop her," according to the log line. "Harriet Tubman must lead a family of slaves to freedom while battling an army of darkness."
The comic series/graphic novel is hard to miss. Incredible illustrations and vivid storytelling combine the strangeness of popular horror TV shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer and films with historical events.
Harriet Tubman: Demon Slayer is drawn by Courtland Ellis, Joey Vazquez and N. Steven Harris and the first two issues are available online for your reading pleasure.
