Will Smith has posted the first image from the set of Bad Boys For Life the next part in the Bad Boys franchise starring Smith as Det. Mike Lowrey and Martin Lawrence as Det. Marcus Burnett. —
Jan. 6, Smith posted an image of what appears to be stacks of scripts with the caption, “Day 1. I’ll keep y’all posted.”
This image has been a long time coming, 3 years in fact. Let’s take a look back at the timeline of Bad Boys For Life from then to now.
The film was first announced in 2016, but was pushed back to 2018 before being taken off the production schedule completely. Throughout that period of development hell, the film went to Michael Bay and then to Joe Carnahan, who, according to Heroic Hollywood, left the film due to either scheduling conflicts or artistic differences.
Martin Lawrence said in a 2017 interview that he felt the third film would never get made. But suddenly, in May 2018, the film came back to the collective consciousness when its release date was officially announced by Sony. The film will now come to theaters Jan. 17, 2020. Directors Adil El Arbi and Bilal Fallah were also announced as the directors at the film’s helm.
In May 2018, Will Smith officially became attached to the film and the film got its official title. In November of that same year, Lawrence confirmed that he was joining Smith on Instagram.
Fast forward to today. We now have the film’s complete synopsis. According to Heroic Hollywood, Bad Boys For Life will follow Lawrence and Smith’s characters as they take on a drug cartel.Jacob Scipio and Paola Nuñez will also star in the film along side Lawrence and Smith.
As the description states:
“The new installment centers on the Miami PD and its elite AMMO team’s attempt to take down Armando Armas (Scipio), the head of a drug cartel. Armando is a cold-blooded killer with a vicious, taunting nature. He is committed to the work of the cartel and is dispatched by his mother to kill Mike (Smith). Nuñez will take on the role of Rite, the tough and funny criminal psychologist who is the newly appointed head of AMMO and Mike’s former girlfriend-and the one who got away.”
The film will also star Alexander Ludwig, Vanessa Hudgens, Joe Pantoliano, Charles Melton, Jaies Baptiste and Massi Furlan. The film’s writers include Chris Bremmer, Dadi Guggenheim, George Gallo (characters), Anthony Tambakis (screenplay) and Carnahan (written by), despite Carnahan’s departure from the film.
