Rapper J. Cole recently removed all the posts off his Instagram account, and now the internet is wondering if this is a sign that new music is on the way.

It’s been almost two years since the North Carolina native dropped his sixth album, The Off-Season. After clearing his Instagram posts earlier this week, fans are hopeful that this is a sign he is planning to release new tunes. These days, this is usually a sign that an artist is about to drop a project or launch a campaign for a new business venture. It wouldn’t be a new move for the “Amari” artist, who wiped his Instagram days before the single “Middle Child” came out from the Revenge of the Dreamers III album in 2019.

While some fans speculate that Cole could be rolling out new music for Creed III because his Dreamville label is executive producing the soundtrack, others think he may finally be releasing either his album The Fall Off or It’s a Boy. These two projects were a part of The Fall Off Era collection that he shared via Instagram in 2020. The post included a notebook with these titles and The Off Season, which dropped in May 2021.

Although hearing new music from the Born Sinner rapper is rare nowadays, he still dropped some dope verses in songs featuring him with Bia, YG, Benny The Butcher, and DJ Drama’s D-Day: A Gangsta Grillz Mixtape. But this isn’t much of a surprise, though — at the time, Cole said he would be “at peace” if he never released new music because he put his all into his last album. However, this proclamation wasn’t an admission of retirement, as he said he’d never announce his last album whenever that time comes, according to an XXL interview in 2021.

Some fans wonder if he has retired as they anticipate new music from the Grammy-nominated lyricist.
