Irv Gotti responded after Fat Joe called him out for his comments about Ashanti during a recent episode of Drink Champs. When Gotti appeared on the show, he talked about his alleged love affair with Ashanti. He also said that Ashanti’s song “Happy” was written after the two had sex, Complex reports.

Fat Joe then posted a video on Instagram, saying Gotti disrespected the R&B singer. Gotti addressed Fat Joe’s criticism on Tuesday when he appeared on the radio station 97.9 The Box in Houston, XXL Mag reports.

“I feel like [Fat Joe] fooled me, he’s not my friend. But in life you get fooled,” Gotti told hosts Keisha Nicole, J-Mac and Jess on the radio show. “So, I won’t talk about Joe, I’ll talk about life. In life, everyone goes through friends. People who you thought were your friends. I’m not talking about Joe. Let me talk. In life, I have had countless friends come and go. But, you know what remains consistent and why I get through all of this? My family. Because I don’t really need friends.”

Irv was also asked if he regrets his decision to publicly speak about his extramarital affair with Ashanti.

“The one thing you gotta know about me, I am cool in my gangster,” the music producer said. “I am cool with who I am as a person. That gives me the ability to talk about things that the normal person won’t talk about. I don’t care. It’s my truth. It’s my life. It’s my story. This is what happened.”

In his video, Fat Joe also called out Ja Rule for failing to defend Ashanti when he appeared on Drink Champs with Gotti. According to TMZ, Ja Rule later hopped into the comments section of an Instagram post and responded to the criticism.

“STOP saying I didn’t defend sis and all women when I clearly told Gotti stop calling Ashanti/women the B word same way I told Joe at Verzuz watch the interview before you talk s**t… NOW LEAVE ME TF OUT THESE GROWN FOLK BUSINESSES… ❤️,” he wrote.

As Blavity previously reported, Fat Joe said he was minding his own business until he came across the Drink Champs episode and felt disturbed by the interview.

“Whatever Irv has with Ashanti is 20 years old,” he said when he vented in his Instagram video. “I know he was making some points that mean a lot to him, his heart and soul, but when you keep ranting about somebody 20 years later, it feels like he’s not over the young lady.”

Fat Joe called Irv Gotti a “sucker” when he went to Instagram Live. The “Lean Back” rapper also said he didn’t know at the time that Ashanti and Gotti had an intimate relationship.

“We didn’t know they were f**king,” he said. “The whole time I was there [and] I never seen them together like that.”
