Audiences nostalgic for Bill Cosby’s brand of family-friendly programming may have reason to celebrate. In a recent interview with Yahoo TV, Cosby shared plans to revive his long-running animated series Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids with writer/producer Tom Straw (Cosby, Nurse Jackie).

The half-hour show would feature the same animated format and live-action wraparounds featuring Cosby as the original series, which ran from 1972-1985. According to Cosby, “It’s got to be animated, every bit of it. Maybe except for yours truly saying, ‘I told you this is going to be funny, and if you pay attention, you just might learn something.'”

The last iteration of the show was 2004’s live action Fat Albert movie starring Kenan Thompson.

The Cos has also teamed with The Cosby Show producer Tom Werner to develop a new family-friendly sitcom, which he says audiences have been craving. 

Said Cosby, the show “would [satisfy] the people who have come to me in public places and said, ‘Can’t you put something on that I can watch?’ I want to be able to deliver a wonderful show to [a] network… because there is a viewership out there that wants to see comedy, and warmth, and love, and surprise, and cleverness, without going into the party attitude.”

This new sitcom, however, will not be a remake of The Cosby Show, but a new concept aimed at generating conversation between parents and older children. 

“It’s like a 28-year-old with the mother, a 28-year-old son taking his father somewhere … I’m talking about how viewers would be able to sit and share and then, using your mouth” — instead of phones, or email, or social media — “to talk to each other.”

So apparently, Cosby is hard at work developing the kind of family-centered programming that many of you have been calling for, emphasizing that it will have “the Cosby feel and respect for the audience.” Excited?
