Here’s a film we first profiled in January, when it was set to open in its native France, starring Senegalese-born beauty Aissa Maiga, in as a girl next door of sorts kind of roles.
We’ve just been told that the film is now actually opening in the USA, playing at Laemmle’s Royal Theatre in Los Angeles, for those of you in the LA area looking for something "French" to watch this weekend.
The romantic-comedy titled "Pret a tout" is being released under the name "Anything for Alice" in the USA.
Directed by Nicholas Cuche, "Alice" stars Maiga in the title role of Alice, a spirited idealist and the object of affection of her college-era squeeze named Max (played by Max Boublil), who, years later, has made a fortune off his internet business that he started with his two friends. However, Max has grown tired of his lavish lifestyle, and can’t stop thinking about his college love Alice, a bubbly, passionate girl full of ideals, who was never interested in material things. In order to get close to Alice once again, Max buys the bankrupt factory in which Alice works and pretends to be an ordinary line worker. He doesn’t reveal the truth about his wealth, and, risking it all, Max spends lavishly for Alice’s happiness, and forgoes his life as a millionaire – keeping his real status a secret – for fear of disappointing her.
"Anything for Alice" is produced by Eric Jehelmann, is currently distributed by Rialto Pictures in the USA.
Now if only Maiga could star next alongside Burkina Fasso born Issaka Sawadogo ("Diego Star") in a romantic comedy, life would be grand.
A trailer with English subtitles is now available (it wasn’t when we first profiled the film), so watch the lovely Ms. Maiga in action, and then go check out the full film at Laemmle’s, if you live in LA. For the rest of the country, we’ll let you know if it comes to your city.
