A replica of one of Christopher Columbus’ ships sank as it sat motionless in a Texas marina.
The La Niña replica sank early Tuesday morning while docked in Corpus Christi, Texas, reports CNN. The city owns the boat and intends to send divers to assess the damage.
An unexpected development in the efforts to save the La Niña Columbus replica ship. The vessel sank overnight. So, will this affect the process to find a new owner? I’ll be reporting live from the Marina on #KRIS6 News at 5 & 6 pm. pic.twitter.com/7EXP30FXJs

"She sank fast, but she is a survivor," said Columbus Sailing Association President Kim Mrazek. The club has been responsible for the boat for a decade after the city announced its upkeep was too costly, according to the Corpus Christi Caller-Times.
The only survivors we acknowledge is Destiny’s Child. None of them were taken out by a rusty nail, which is what allegedly caused the boat to sink.
Despite the silly cause, Mrazek insisted La Niña was tough while it sat at the bottom of the sea.
"She is strong," said Mrazek. "She was built four times stronger than she needed to be built."

Until it sashayed to the bottom of the ocean, La Niña was the last existing replica from a trio of vessels that arrived in Corpus Christi in 1992. They sailed from Spain to the United States to commemorate the 500th anniversary of a genocidal maniac with crappy knowledge of geography who landed on this continent.
The other two ships, La Pinta and La Santa Maria, were deemed too expensive to repair and destroyed in 2014. Additionally, this is the second time La Niña touched the bottom of the sea. It sank in 2017 after sustaining damage from Hurricane Harvey.
Mrazek remains optimistic about the ship’s future.
“I believe in this little ship … She is going to survive another 50 years or so,” she told the Caller-Times.
FIFTY YEARS?!?!
This might be a crazy idea, but maybe it should stay there? It’s clear La Niña likes being at the bottom, so honor her wishes.
